Bective v Ratoath

Bective second team took to a soft pitch against a strong Ratoath third team on Sunday morning with the hope of reaching the Reserve Cup Div 2 final.
The game was a tight affair . Ratoath started the game on the front foot, kicking two excellent long range points. Bective had plenty of possession but their shooting was a fraction out, kicking a few wide’s early on. Bective sprang into life when a shot was blocked down ,breaking into Micheal Lyness grasp, who turned towards goal in determined fashion, only to be brought down in the penalty area. Michael Lyness sent the Ratoath keeper the wrong way, opening the scoring for Bective. Finn Murray added another point a short time later, increasing Bective lead. Ratoath then kicked three long range points to retake the lead . Bective midfield were starting to dominate the centre of the pitch and a great move, created by swift hand passing and an excellent run by Lyness created a free, which Lyness dispatched with confidence. Ratoath tagged on another point only for Ciaran Reilly to kick an excellent point from 45 yards. Bective and Ratoath exchange one more point a piece making the score Half time score Bective 1-4 to Ratoath 0-7 .
Once again Ratoath started the second half stronger by kicking two points and gaining a lot of possession. Bective management made two changes. Bective started to regain a foot hold in midfield, again giving them an opportunity to push forward. Bective won a hard fought ball in midfield and transferred it quickly into the forward line. An unfortunate mistake by the Ratoath full back was pounced upon by Michael Lyness who set up his brother Paul with an easy fisted goal. Ratoath pushed forward looking for a reply, but a well-oiled back line led by Jarlath Brennan assisted by the outstanding Simon Heneghan and Finn Murray kept Ratoath at bay. Bective pushed on with some quick hand passing and hard running creating excellent opportunities for the inside forwards . Bectives’ Ben Sherlock came to life kicking four excellent points with Ratoath only replying with two points in the last ten minutes of play. Bective came out the right side of a tight well fought game against an excellent Ratoath side . The final score line of 2-8 Bective 0-11 Ratoath.
