Match Report – K McKeown Carpentry and Home Improvements – Football League Division 8 Round 5 Bective v Ballivor

Bective hosted Ballivor in this Div. 8 League game on a fine and calm Monday evening. The sides were evenly matched in the early exchanges and Ballivor opened with a pointed free kick on 5 minutes. Ben Sherlock pointed from a free kick after a foul on Sean Crinion on 8 minutes. Ballivor pointed again and found the net on 14 minutes. Bective were winning their kick outs with good showing from Eanna Reilly, Chic McGurn, Craig Roche and Ciaran Reilly and McGurn kept his run going and found space and blasted to the net on 15 minutes. Ciaran Reilly pointed on 16 minutes and Sherlock followed with a point on 20 minutes. Ballivor had plenty of possession and released the ball early into the scoring zone but Bective fullback Simon Heneghan continually thwarted their efforts and came clear with the ball. Ballivor pointed on 21 minutes but Bective were gaining possession from Robbie Coogan’s kick outs and Eanna Reilly split the defence with a through ball to Ben Sherlock who goaled with style on 24 minutes. McGurn pointed again and Ballivor replied before Sherlock pointed from a free kick to conclude the half. Bective 2 – 5, Ballivor 1 – 4.

Ballivor were fired up for the second half and opened with a goal in the first minute and added two points in quick succession. Paul McCabe settled the troops with a pointed free kick on 8 minutes. Jarlath Brennan came into the Bective backs. Bective tried to carry the ball into the danger zone but the final pass did not always land and at the far end of the field Ballivor pounced for their second goal on 17 minutes to go three points up. Shane Valentine and Mathew Donohue came into the forward line. Sherlock pointed on 19 minutes but Bective were been forced to shoot from tight angles and the wides were adding up. Brian Hogge came into the back line. McCabe pointed a free kick from a very tight angle on 27 minutes but Bective were still a point down with 30 seconds remaining. Ciaran Reilly in possession was been held up outside the “D” but heard the call and a short pass to McCabe who found enough space to fire over the bar on 31 minutes to level the game.
