Bective stay on the winning trail with a 3 point win over hosts Kilmainham on a cold but sunny day with the pitch in great condition. Kilmainham open the scoring with a point after 1 minute but they would have to wait 20 minutes for their next one. Bective pressed from the start and Sean Keating fires their first point after 7 minutes. This was followed by points from Paul Lyness, Paul McCabe (free) and two from Michael Lyness. Kilmainham replied with 2 more points before Marty Mulhall (free) and Sean Keating conclude the scoring for the first half and Bective go in at half time with 7 points to Kilmainham’s 4 points.
The second half commences with a fine point from Sean Keating after 2 minutes followed by a Kilmainham point (free) after 5 minutes. Scores were now hard to come by with strong defending by both teams, and in particular Bective’s full back – Diarmuid Rogers, and only 1 point each (from frees) were added in the next 15 minutes. Bective introduced Cathal Mc Connell and he stretched the Kilmainham defence with some hard running and ball carrying. He won three frees and created a couple of goal chances. However Kilmainham were not giving in and got within 2 points with 10 minutes left. They broke through the staunch Bective defence to blast for goal from close range but Bective’s goalie Ciaran Breslin was up to the job and deflected for a 45. Kilmainham added a point before Dara Maguire lifted the siege for Bective with a fine point after 23 minutes. This was to be the last score of the game but not the end of the excitement as Bective hit the post twice in the same attack to be denied a goal. Bective also introduced Ben Malone Ciaran Mc Connell and Mark Usher and this added fresh legs that allowed them to attack and, or keep possession, to diminish the Kilmainham opportunities and see out the game with a good win.
Bective 0-10 to Kilmainham’s 0-7
