Bective 3-11 Cortown 0-10
Bective achieved their goal of promotion to Division 2 after this 10 point win over Cortown in Cortown on Thursday evening.
The winners started well and had the ball in the back of the net on 4 minutes after Cathal McConnell weaved his way through the Cortown defence and squared to Mark O’Brien to blast home.
Marty Mulhall pointed from a free kick followed by a McConnell point on 7 minutes. Cortown pointed on 8 minutes from play and from a free kick on 14 minutes.
Bective were then guilty of wasting great scoring chances but Paul McCabe steadied the ship with a pointed free kick. Cortown narrowed the margin with a further point from play on 17 minutes. Ciaran Breslin was in great form between the sticks and was successful with most of his kick outs. This provided a good supply of ball in the middle third and wing back Colin O’Rourke showed the forwards how it was done with a 60m run and a great point from play on 26 minutes. Cortown score another point before McConnell added a fine score from play to close out the first half with Bective 1-5 to Cortown’s 0-4 in front.
Cortown come out fighting with a fine point and a converted free kick to narrow the margin to just 2 points but thats as close as it got. Mulhall kicks a point before Sean Keating won a long delivery to drive to the net. This was added to by Craig Roche blasting to the net on 8 minutes to put Bective in complete control.
Further points from McConnell, a Paul McCabe free kick and 3 points from play from Mark O’Brien sealed a comfortable win for David Hosies charges.
