AFL Div 2 Round 2 Bective v St Colmcilles

Sunday 3rd February in Pairc Ui Ris – Piltown

St Colmcilles took control from the start of this div. 2 match in Piltown against an injury hit Bective and, playing with a stiff breeze, romped into an early lead and never looked likely to be caught. Marty Mulhall converted a free kick to open the scoring for Bective on 14 minutes and was little reward for all the hard work to get the ball into scoring positions. Cathal McConnell gained much possession and broke through the St. Colmcilles defence but his shot crashed back of the upper post and was cleared. An intercepted kick out on 18 minutes allowed St Colmcilles in for their first goal, and they bagged a second one before half time to go in for the break with 2–14 to Bective’s 0–3.
Bective, now with the wind, started the second half brightly and had 3 points added before St Colmcilles scored a point. Bective were still finding it tough to get ball in good scoring positions but did add a further 4 points from Dara Maguire, Sean Keating and some fine long range efforts from Marty Mulhall. Bective backs were under the cosh through-out but stuck to their task and Greg Hogge and Jack Grant foiled goal chances, but St Colmcilles delivered another goal and added 4 points more to conclude this game.

St Colmcilles 3-19, Bective 0-10.
